Some projects start with a drawing and a plan down to the smallest bolt. Others start with a feeling for how the build should feel when it rolls out of the gate. '80s' was of the latter kind.

The starting point was a Harley-Davidson Road Glide 2023.5 — solid, reliable, and completely standard. The goal was twofold: a paint job and a stance that makes people turn their heads, and a sound system that can keep up when you crank it up on the highway.

Stance and expression

The first thing that catches the eye is the front wheel. A 23" custom spoked wheel changes the entire geometry of a Road Glide: the front becomes higher and narrower, and the bike gets the long, low-slung line, which is the whole point of a bagger build.

The paint is a deep candy combination with a retro stripe across the fairing and fender. Paint of this quality is a work of patience: multiple layers of clear coat, polished to a depth where the surface almost looks wet in pictures. It's not something you rush through.

The Sound System — Where You Can Hear Your Money

A standard Road Glide radio is built to sound nice in the garage. It won't hold up at 130 km/h with the wind in your helmet. That's why the entire audio chain has been replaced: a new head unit with CarPlay, speakers in both the fairing and saddlebags, an external amplifier with its own wiring harness, and a subwoofer that brings back the bass.

A 2023.5 isn't just a 2023 with a new model year. Harley changed the fairing, wiring harness, and the entire infotainment platform in the middle of the model year, so audio parts from the 2015-2023 generation won't fit directly. This is the most important thing to clarify before you buy.

Built at Full Blast

The entire sound system installation was carried out at our workshop in Copenhagen: fairing removal, routing of new cable harnesses without pinched wires, amplifier mounting on a plate, customization of speaker enclosures, and finally, amplifier and head unit tuning so that the system plays clearly instead of just loudly.

This is the part that cannot be seen in pictures but determines whether a sound system lasts for three seasons or fails after the first wet ride.
