Dyna & FXR

Harley-Davidson Dyna and FXR are often mentioned in the same breath because they are both associated with a more raw and exhilarating side of the Harley universe. The FXR came first and gained a reputation for being a strong-performing Big Twin platform with a more technical and relatively sporty approach to chassis and geometry. The Dyna came later and effectively took over the role as the simpler, more muscular, and broad performance cruiser.

About Dyna & FXR

Harley-Davidson Dyna and FXR are often mentioned in the same breath because they are both associated with a more raw and exhilarating side of the Harley universe. The FXR came first and gained a reputation for being a strong-performing Big Twin platform with a more technical and relatively sporty approach to chassis and geometry. The Dyna came later and effectively took over the role as the simpler, more muscular, and broad performance cruiser.

Many therefore view the FXR as the more cult-like classic, while the Dyna became the model that truly spread the style to more riders. What made the Dyna and FXR popular is especially the combination of classic Harley expression and a more direct riding experience than the large Touring models. They typically appeal to people who want a Harley with a clear engine feel, a relatively simple build, and good opportunities to customize it to their own liking.

This is also a significant part of the explanation for why both platforms continue to feature prominently in the custom scene, where they are often used for everything from club style and performance builds to more clean and stripped setups.
